Historical Society of Washington Emancipation Day Open House

Come by the Historical Society of Washington's (HSW) home at the Carnegie Library to view a display of highlights from local church collections and HSW's collection including several pieces from the Kiplinger Washington Collection. Selected pieces include: a copy of "Lincoln's Emancipation Draft" from NYAPC; HSW List of Emancipated Persons; and a Kiplinger Collection "antislavery broadside.  "11:30 - 12:30" enjoy a panel discussion with local scholars on DC emancipation, the role of local churches on social change in downtown DC, and activities of the church communities and their work toward civil activism and improving the lifestyles and thought patterns of the general population during the 1860's.
