Ms. Burroughs (May 2, 1878 – May 20, 1961) has been recognized for her civil rights and feminist activities in the nation’s capital, particularly “East of the River.”  Although her contributions occurred in the Postbellum period, the discussion about her life and legacy has a clear thematic connection.  The Burroughs family moved to DC from Virginia in 1833.  The lecturer is Retired Colonel James Wyatt, who is credited with establishing the Project. The Nannie Helen Burroughs Project also has a free traveling display which can be viewed at www.nburroughsinfo.org.
