Last Date:

Location:
1350 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Building:
John A. Wilson Building
Room:
Ceremonial Room 509
Details:

Brief description: Join the Office of the Secretary of the District of Columbia and Mayor Bowser’s Administration and stop-by the John A. Wilson Building for a lesson on DC Emancipation Day in Mayor Bowser’s Ceremonial Room as we celebrate our #DCValues. Each year, the city pauses on Emancipation Day to celebrate that historic day when President Abraham Lincoln signed the Compensated Emancipation Act, freeing 3,185 enslaved persons in the District of Columbia, several months before he signed the Emancipation Proclamation. The DC Emancipation Day Act will be on display, and light refreshments will be served.
